Free guided tour of freshwater marsh, birds and native plants. 10-11am. Tour begins on south side of Jefferson Blvd., near Playa del Rey. Please call for directions.

Saturday, December 08 - Marina del Rey Holiday Boat Parade

Experience Christmas at the Marina's Free Annual Holiday Boat Parade and Fireworks Display. Rain or shine, dozens of colorfully decorated boats circle the marina competing for the Grand Prize. The night's festivities usually kick off with a 5:55 p.m. fireworks show, followed by the parade from 6 - 8 p.m. See website for parking, viewing and contest details.

Sunday, December 09 - Venice Canals Holiday Boat Parade

Join all the fun at the Venice Canals as this creative mirror-image of Italy expresses its holiday spirit with a brilliantly lit display of small boats, canoes, kayaks and costumes. 4 p.m. From Admiralty Way, turn right on Via Marina, then left onto Washington Boulevard. Go 1/4 mile, turn right onto Dell Ave. Park, then walk toward the beautiful holiday lights!

Thursday, December 20 - Venice Art Crawl

The Venice Art Crawl is a monthly exploration of the area celebrating Venice Beach's unique art, music and poetry scene. Location centered north of Venice Boulevard, along the Boardwalk, Speedway and Pacific Avenues ending at Westminster Avenue. Takes place the third Thursday of each month from 6 p.m. - 10 p.m. Free.

Saturday, December 22 - Ballona Dunes Restoration Party

Help restore wetlands by planting native and removing invasive plants, plus learn wetland ecology. 9:30 a.m. - noon. Tour begins in Playa del Rey. Please call for directions.

Monday, December 31 - New Year's Eve Fireworks!

Bring in the New Year with an explosive fireworks display following a 30 second countdown from 11:59 p.m. Best viewing spots will be Burton Chace Park (13650 Mindanao Way), and Fisherman's Village (13755 Fiji Way). Arrive early for prime parking and cocktails, stay overnight as 2012 rolls in.
