OUTDOOR RECREATION - BY FOOT

  • Ballona Wetlands

Hundreds of acres of salt and freshwater marsh are being restored in this eco-friendly tribute to nature at the Marina's southern edge. Self-guided trails are available for strollers, and organized tours offered a few times a month – see Schedule.
  • Birdwatching

Observe the Marina’s variety of birdlife, including egrets, great blue herons and least terns. Watch on your own, or join a guided birdwatching experience. Check the schedule section for details.
  • North Jetty Promenade and Marina Peninsula

Visit this narrow strip for spectacular views of the Marina's main channel. The lovely adjacent neighborhood offers a path parallel to the Grand Canal, footbridge to the beach, and an inviting oceanfront walk.
  • Self-Guided Walks

Whether you have an hour or a day, it’s easy to explore the Marina through a series of self-guided walks created by the visitors bureau.  Learn a little history while discovering hidden treasures in six neighborhood ‘experiences’. Download the guide now or drop by the Visitors Center for a free copy.
  • South Jetty Promenade

Spot the wetland’s great blue heron, study the collegiate rowing team graffiti along Ballona Creek channel, and take in the great views of the main channel, ending up at the pedestrian bridge to Playa del Rey Beach.
  • Venice Beach Ocean Front Walk

Stroll the boardwalk for loads of fun in the sun and free entertainment. With sidewalk vendors and performers, shops, beachfront cafes and famed Muscle Beach, it's most lively on weekends–and a favorite with visitors and locals alike for its freewheeling atmosphere.
