Marina del Rey Halloween Photo Contest 2019

In Los Angeles (and really all across the country), Halloween costumes are taken pretty seriously and many would argue that costumes can be viewed as a work of art. From DIY costumes that may or may not require sewing to outfits purchased on Etsy months before Halloween, the range of fun, creative and spooky attire is never-ending. Interestingly, the most popular couple’s Halloween costume for 2019 (according to Pinterest) is Disney’s Lilo & Stitch (who knew!?). Last year, the top three most Googled Halloween costume ideas were: Fortnite, Spiderman and Unicorn. Of course, nautical themed costumes are some of our favorites here in Marina del Rey. Why not dress as a sailor and a mermaid? Or perhaps Captain Jack Sparrow for a little pirate fun! Fun “fishy” ideas for kids include Finding Nemo, an octopus or a baby shark–of course, singing the song is optional.

Whether you’re part of an Halloween ensemble (like this Shark Week group), going for DIY-chic like this jelly-fish or shooting for pop-culture fun (you know, Jim’s beloved costume from NBC’s The Office), we know it takes hard work to put your look together during one of the most festive holidays in the U.S.

Here in L.A.’s Marina, we celebrate all of your efforts with our annual Marina del Rey Halloween photo contest.
