FIVE MARINA MOTHER’S BEACH ACTIVITIES

If you’re planning a beach day in Los Angeles, then check out five Marina “Mother’s” Beach activities you can do any time of year. With nearly 300 days of sunshine, Marina del Rey’s popular beach is loved by locals and visitors alike.

The cove’s lack of surf make it ideal for families with young kids – an attribute that contributed to the attraction’s local nickname, Mother’s Beach. There is also a paved ADA ramp to the waterline. Restrooms are easily accessible near the sand, too.

Here are five things you can do at Marina “Mother’s” Beach

Beach parking lots, volleyball nets and playground equipment are open. The sheltered picnic tables remain closed as of March 2021.

Stand-up Paddle and Explore the Harbor

Because Mother's Beach is virtually wave and current free, it is the best place to stand-up paddle in Los Angeles. Rent paddle boards from outfitters on the beach: Paddle Method or ProSUP Shop. Both offer brief lessons and guided harbor and sea life tours, depending on season.

Kayak and Spot Marine Life

Another way to explore the Marina is to rent kayaks. Local vendor ProSUP Shop has single and double kayaks available for rent. The shallow calm water makes it easy to hop in and out of the kayak. Keep your eyes peeled for sea lions and other marine life as you glide through the harbor.

Picnic on the Beach

Nothing beats a good ol' fashioned picnic on the sand while in Marina del Rey. Bring your own yummy snacks, sandwiches, and drinks for a relaxed easy-to-eat beach meal. Or place a takeout order from local restaurants nearby including Beachside, Killer Shrimp or The Cheesecake Factory. On Thursdays, starting May through September, order and eat delicious dinners from Beach Eats, the weekly food truck event at Parking Lot #11 next to Mother's Beach.
