    Art galleries from throughout Los Angeles have joined forces to present selected pieces and collections in this one-day art extravaganza.

    BBQLA

    BBQLA presents for the first time as BBQLA COLLECTIVE. The maiden voyage for the collective will be feature local emerging artists from their wide-reaching friends circle. Previous artists featured at their gallery have include Daniel Gibson, Kenn Taylor, Jonas Wood, Jamie Felton, Thomas Linder, Mary Hill, Will Boone, Timo Fahler, Alex Bercerra, and Lauren Quin.


    California Curse

    “California Curse” is an exhibition derived from and referencing the mythic understanding and manifestations of Los Angeles art and artists from the 1950s onward and contextualizing it within a contemporary setting. The artists featured include Alex Calamos, Luke Forsyth, James Herman, Mary Hill, Jake Kean Mayman, Maxfield Miles, Paul Pescador, Elizabeth Portanova, Miller Robinson, Jeremy Shockley, Ben Tong, Trina Turturici, and Rosha Yaghmai.

    In Lieu

    In Lieu is a new contemporary space dedicated to supporting young emerging artists, poets and performers. This space was founded by Neidy Lizbet, Alex Perliter, and Ethan Tate. The gallery is located in a beautiful historic building in Lincoln Heights neighborhood near downtown Los Angeles.


    Love and Guts

    Featured artists: Steve Olson, Lance Mountain, and Pat Ngoho. The name Love and Guts was created with the idea that, at its core, skateboarding is an art form. The artists involved in this collective extend their art beyond the skateboard and into other mediums. The three featured artists founded Love and Guts in 2005 with a small series of shows throughout the U.S. In 2007, Love and Guts formed a partnership with Oakley, which brought them to an international stage. Over the years, Love and Guts has featured hundreds of artists from all around the world.

    Aquarium Dreams: Join artist and visionary Kiel Johnson in creating a larger than life-size aquarium teeming with cardboard fish and sea life. All ages are welcome.


    Paint a la Plage

    12:00–5:00 p.m.
    Settle into a beach chair and dig your toes into the sand while you paint your view of the beach. Use a variety of art materials to create a painting of life in the Marina.

    Contribute your paint-loaded thumbprint to a giant mural, paint-by-numbers style, and watch as the images appear over the course of the day.

Mara Schwartz Kuge is DJ and host of LA’s popular Soft Rock Sunday, a monthly celebration of easy rock music from the ’70s and early ’80s. Held the 3rd Sunday of each month at downtown’s Love Song Bar, Soft Rock Sunday brings you the best of Bread, America, Olivia Newton-John, England Dan & John Ford Coley, Helen Reddy, The Eagles, and a host of other smooth tracks, spun only on vinyl.

Versa-Style Dance Company JAM session

Sing, dance, play and experience something unexpected! Led by professionals, JAM Sessions invite participants of all skill levels to release their inner artist and get up on the dance floor and/or play an instrument. This energetic Los Angeles-based band’s sound combines ’90s garage rock, a dash of punk, and undertones of surf rock.

QUITAPENAS

8:00-9:00 p.m.
This tropical Afro-Latin combo was born under the warm California sun. They borrow aesthetics from the radical ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s. Each song echoes a remix of history and invites one to engage in the liberating evenings of Angola, Peru, Colombia, the Caribbean, and beyond. The name means “to remove worries.” Everybody has a pena, and QUITAPENAS’ mission of is simple: to make you dance and leave you without a worry.

KCRW DJ Anthony Valadez

7:00-8:00 p.m. / 9:00-10:00 p.m.
Anthony Valadez can be heard weekly on KCRW. He is also the current host of KCRW’s blog series Looped. His past DJ residences include Chinatown Summer Nights, First Fridays at The Natural History Museum, and The Sayers Club in Las Vegas. In 2016, Valadez was voted Best LA DJ by LA Weekly. When not behind the turntables, Valadez enjoys walking his pup Smedley on the Venice Boardwalk.

Halau Keali’i O Nalani Dancers, under the direction of Kumu Hula Keali’i Ceballos, bring the spirit of Hawaii to Marina del Rey’s ARTsea. Keali’i is respected nationally and internationally for his deep knowledge of ancient Hawaiian hula, his creativity in choreographing hula in new styles, and his personal power in performance. Please join the dancers on the sands of Marina Beach for a day of music and hula.
